WINSTED — The Winchester Police Department held their “Coffee with a Cop” event at The Railway Café on Wednesday, July 14.
The café provided free coffee and breakfast foods for the event, which included Department Officers Daniel Pietrafesa, Justin Waltzer, and Joshua Blass.
The purpose of the event, according to the officers, was to reach out to the community and listen to their concerns they might have about the community.
“The big intention with this event is to break down the barriers between the department and the community, just like our previous event with children,” Officer Waltzer said. “This opens us up to adults who will have the opportunity to talk with us about any questions or concerns they might have with police functions or law enforcement.”
“The whole idea of outreach is that we reach out to the residents,” Officer Blass added. “This is our way of doing it. We want to be out there to talk and interact with people. It’s not just about law enforcement, but it’s also about any kinds of concerns when it comes to anything around town.”
The department is planning to hold other community outreach events in the future.
