BARKHAMSTED — Senior citizens from all over town attended the Senior Center’s first outdoor cookout in several years on Tuesday, July 13.
Residents got to enjoy a lunch of burgers, baked beans, macaroni salad, and ice cream.
But more importantly, they all got to enjoy each other’s company, which was something many of the seniors could not do during the Covid pandemic.
Senior Center President Dave Roberts said that the July 13 event was the first time the Senior Center held a barbecue since the previous president David Ravasio passed away in early 2018.
“When I became president of the Senior Center I said ‘Why don’t we go back and do this all again?’” Roberts said. “I think it’s really important to have this barbecue because it gives our seniors some time to come out and socialize. They are all very excited about this.”
One of the many seniors who enjoyed the July 13 meal was Janet Hall.
“We are all very happy because we haven’t been together for so long,” Hall said. “It was very sad because we all have so many good friends but we haven’t been able to get together for so long. Being here with everybody means so much to us.”
