One person dead in two vehicle accident in Torrington

TORRINGTON — A male motorcycle rider was killed in a two vehicle accident on Tuesday, May 18 in Torrington.
According to a press release issued by the Torrington Police Department, both the police and fire departments responded to a two vehicle accident on South Main Street, near Cook Street around 3 p.m.
One vehicle was determined to be a motorcycle while the other a pickup style truck.
An investigation determined that the motorcycle was traveling south on South Main Street,, when the operator passed a vehicle preparing to turn left.
“While passing the vehicle, the pickup truck that had been traveling in the northbound lane had turned left onto Cook Street, resulting in the motorcyclist striking the pickup truck on the passenger side in the area of the door,” the department wrote in the press release. “The operator of the motorcycle was transported to Charlotte Hungerford Hospital where he later died from his injuries. The male operator was reportedly not wearing a helmet at the time of the accident. The name of the motorcycle operator is being withheld until next of kin can be notified. The operator of the pickup truck did not suffer any injuries and is cooperating with officers during the ongoing investigation.”
According to the press release, the police department’s Accident Investigation Team is investigating the accident.
