Town manager to form committee to discuss use of 508 Main Street property

WINSTED — Town Manager Josh Kelly will be forming an ad hoc advisory committee to discuss the use of the property at 508 Main Street.
According to the Board of Selectmen’s meeting documents for the Monday, May 17 meeting, Kelly wrote that the property is currently vacant and the town has possessed the building as part of the blight enforcement process.
According to the town’s property database, the building was purchased in 1993 by Ronald LaPointe, then purchased in 2003 by R&B Real Estate Investment LLC.
It is listed in the database that both owners purchased the property for $0.
It was purchased in 2007 by McCann & Zeolla Real Estate Investment 2007 for $265,000.
The town took ownership of the property in March 2020.
There was a building next to the property at the same address until last year when the town demolished the building to make way for new parking spaces.
However, parking spaces at the site have not been made as of yet, and parts of the demolished building still stand at the lot.
In his note to selectmen, Kelly wrote that the committee, which will be comprised of no more than 12 individuals, will discuss possible uses for space and will recommend to the board the best use for the building.
The demolished part of 508 Main Street was the former location of a pizza restaurant and a very short-lived Mexican restaurant that lasted for only a week.
