Update: According to the Winchester Police Department, Winsted resident Yvon Michaud, 46, was identified as the person who was killed in the accident. Meriden resident Clayton Ferguson, 39, was identified as the driver of the semi tractor trailer truck involved in the accident. The registered owner of the box trailer is Central Transport LLC of Evansville, Indiana. Ferguson sustained minor injuries and was transported to Charlotte Hungerford Hospital where he was later released. The investigation into the accident is ongoing and anyone with any information is asked to call the department at 860-379-2721.

WINSTED — A resident died in a motor vehicle accident that happened on North Main Street on Friday, May 14.
According to a press release by the Winchester Police Department, the department was dispatched around 6:45 a.m.
A semi-tractor trailer traveling south collided head-on with a minivan that was traveling north.
The operator of the minivan was ejected when the collision took place.
The identity of the operator of the minivan is being withheld until their family is notified.
There were no other occupants in either vehicles. The operator of the semi-tractor trailer truck sustained minor injuries and was transported to Charlotte Hungerford Hospital.
Connecticut State Police Accident Reconstruction Unit was called to assist in the investigation.
