WINSTED — The town’s Economic Development Commission held a ribbon-cutting ceremony for Live Clothing Boutique on Thursday, April 29.
The store opened in early April at 396 Main Street.
Previously, Live was in New Hartford for over five years until store owner Jackie McNamara closed it for a year due to the Covid pandemic.
“Due to all of the speculation going around about reopening guidelines last year, I decided to wait until I found out for sure that we could stay open once we reopened up,” McNamara said in an interview with The Winsted Phoenix. “A few months ago when the vaccinations started to come out and things were starting up again, I thought it was a good time for me to reopen my business.”
McNamara said that she decided to reopen in Winsted because “I think it’s a little town with a lot of potentials.”
“I don’t think people give it the credit it deserves,” she said. “There’s a great sense of community in Winsted and a lot of local support, which is incredible.”
McNamara said that the name of the store comes from her daughter.
“Her name is Olivia, but I have called her Liv since she was about two,” she said. “The store is named after her. I added the ‘e’ at the end because I wanted to send the message out to customers to live and to be you is really what it is all about: to be your unique self.”
The store offers unique women’s clothing, jewelry, accessories, and personalized items.
“I love clothing and what woman doesn’t love clothing?” McNamara said. “Clothing has always been my passion. If I could start my life all over again, I would have gone to design school. I love to design and be creative, but I cannot draw to save my life. I just love coordinating colors and putting things together. I love what I do and I love the interactions with my customers.”
She said that the store also offers personalized designs, including customized t-shirts and handbags.
