NEW HARTFORD — While residents voted to sell the town’s water and wastewater assets at a referendum on March 6, Aquarion will not be taking over the assets until at least the first quarter of 2022.
According to company spokesman Peter Fazekas, the state’s Department of Energy and Environmental Protection Public Utilities Regulatory Authority (PURA) must first approve the asset purchase agreement between Aquarion and the town.
In an email to The Winsted Phoenix, Fazekas wrote that, once the sale is completed, Aquarion employees will take over the operations of the drinking water system.
Fazekas did not have a specific timeline for when the company expects a PURA review.
At the referendum, residents approved the sale by a vote of 748-518.
