NEW HARTFORD — Debbie Ventre was sworn in as the new Town Clerk on Wednesday, Feb. 3 at Town Hall.
She is taking the place of Donna LaPlante, who resigned her position on Monday, Feb. 1 after serving the town for 22 years.
According to her resume on LinkedIn, Ventre graduated from Western Connecticut State University with a Bachelor of Business Administration and Human Resource Management degree in 1988.
She has been working in the town’s municipal government since 2007.
From August 2007 to May 2012, she worked as the Assistant to Tax Collector.
She then switched over to Assistant Town Clerk in May 2012.
Previously, she volunteered as the Vice President of the Bakerville School PTO from August 2009 to June 2011, and as a Troop Leader of the Girl Scouts from September 2011 to August 2014.
She will serve the remainder of LaPlante’s term, which is scheduled to expire this November.
Ventre was appointed by a unanimous vote at a special Board of Selectmen’s meeting on Tuesday, Feb. 2.
The selectmen set Ventre’s salary at $56,875 annually.
During the meeting, the board briefly discussed the idea of switching the Town Clerk position from an elected position to an appointed position.
However, the selectmen made no decision on changing how the Town Clerk’s position is filled.
