WINSTED — Elks Lodge #844 honored members of the Winchester Police Department at a ceremony on Saturday, Jan. 9.
The ceremony, which was held at the Lodge building at 75 High Street, was held as part of National Law Enforcement Appreciation Day.
Members of the lodge presented officers present with a certificate of appreciation, along with an American flag, from Lodge Exalted Ruler Daniel W. Matthews.
“With all of the difficulties that COVID has placed upon us, it is important that we show support for our first responders throughout the year for their service and their sacrifices,” Matthews said. “They continuously provide us with the highest level of service, care, compassion, and dedication.”
Mayor Candy Perez, who was at the ceremony, thanks to both members of the police department and the Elks Lodge.
“There are traditions and ideals that have been in place that have helped us to remain stable through turbulent times, and the lodge has done a great job when it comes to carrying on traditions that are important to the community, families, and individuals,” Mayor Perez said. “During this past year, as the pandemic has continued, the police department has provided stability to the community. We appreciate all of the work that you do.”
