BARKHAMSTED/PRESS RELEASE — The Lions Club of Barkhamsted, founded in 1966 by the Winsted Lions Club, was recently awarded the Lions Clubs International District Club Excellence Award for 2019-2020.
Zone Chair Alan Hill from Hartland Lions Club presented this award to Club President Dave Roberts, Immediate Past Club President Rejean Labrie, and Club Treasurer Don Stein.
Clubs that excel in community service, membership growth, communications, and organizational operations qualify for the Excellence Award. Per Lions Clubs International, the “Club Excellence Award is more than an award… it is proof that your club is strong.”
Only four Lions Clubs in Litchfield and Hartford Counties, out of 53 total clubs, were recognized with this international honor for 2019-2020.
“Barkhamsted Lions Club excels in community service helping those most in need and is well-deserving of this honor,” Zone Chair Alan Hill said. “Barkhamsted Lions distributed over 20,000 pounds of food to needy families, sponsored the Barkhamsted T-Ball jerseys, sponsored the annual community ice-skating event, co-sponsored the Barkhamsted Elementary Sixth Grade Graduation jerseys, helped clean up over 12 miles of local roads and rivers, added 30 new members since January 1st, and awarded over $3,000 in educational scholarships.”
Also, Barkhamsted Lions Club has sponsored the Hartland Lions Club, the Northwestern Connecticut Cyber Lions and Cyber Leos Clubs, as well as started both the Barkhamsted Senior Center and ECAD (Educated Canines Assisting with Disabilities) Lions Clubs Branches.
