WINSTED — A special permit application for East Coast Assistance Dogs (ECAD) is scheduled to be reviewed at the Planning and Zoning Commission’s regular meeting on Monday, Dec. 14.
The meeting is scheduled to be held virtually on Zoom with the meeting ID: 858 4512 4709 and Passcode: 106170
It will also be broadcasted on the town’s YouTube channel at this link.
The proposal, as originally presented to the commission earlier this year, is for ECAD to build a 7,000 square foot building for a dog kennel, an indoor exercise run, and office space at ECAD’s location on 149 Newfield Road.
The building would allow for the housing of adult service dogs in training and would be located proximal to the existing training facility.
A public hearing for the special permit application was scheduled to be held on November 23.
However, the application was withdrawn.
In a previous interview with The Winsted Phoenix, ECAD Executive Director Dale Picard said that “One way or another, we’re going to build the building.”
Also on the agenda as listed, a request from ECAD for a zoning regulation change for a “Zoning Text Amendment to Provide Bonus 5% Impervious Surface Coverage when LID techniques are employed in RR.”
While the agenda for the Dec. 14 has been uploaded to the town’s website at this link, the agenda listed in the Planning and Zoning section of the website has not been updated to include ECAD’s special permit and zoning regulation change request.
During this past week, The Winsted Phoenix has interviewed several neighbors of the ECAD property for a forthcoming story.
