WINSTED — The eighth annual Freezin’ for a Reason will be held on Friday, Dec. 11.
However, due to the continuing COVID-19 pandemic, the event will not be held at East End Park.
Instead, at the Monday, Dec. 7 Board of Selectmen’s meeting, Town Manager Robert Geiger said that the event will still go on virtually.
“Each individual participant is going to be sleeping in their backyard at home,” Geiger said. “We are planning to do a Zoom Freezin’ for a Reason.”
The annual event is a benefit for the YMCA’s homeless shelter and this year’s fundraising goal is to raise $15,000.
In an interview a few weeks ago with The Winsted Phoenix, organization Housing Director Willem Donahue, the shelter has space for 16 residents total, including eight family members, four males, and four females.
Donahue said that the shelter operates on donations and they have been low on supplies lately.
“There is always a need and the shelter waitlist is always full,” he said. “But we are doing the best that we can.”
