COLEBROOK — Justin Richards, a member of Winsted’s Boy Scout Troop 1027, was presented his Eagle Scout merit badge at Camp Alice Merritt in East Hartland on Saturday, Nov. 21.
The rank is the highest achievement attainable in the Boy Scouts program and, since it was created in 1911, only four percent of all Boy Scouts enrolled have ever earned this rank.
According to a press release by troop committee member Julie Rego, Justin, 16, completed his Eagle Scout service project by re-roofing and installing doors on a cabin at the camp, which is a recreational property owned by the town of East Hartland.
Justin has been a member of the Boy Scout program for many years, starting as a Cub Scout in Pack 3 in Torrington.
He is also an active member of the Order of the Arrow in the Tschitani Lodge and has served in many leadership positions in Troop 1027.
His future goal is to attend college to study engineering or computer animation.
Justin’s parents are Paul and Jeannie Richards.
