UPDATE: Due to the increasing rate of COVID cases in the Northwest Corner, this year’s Whiting Mills Holiday Open House has been canceled.

WINSTED — Despite the ongoing COVID pandemic, The Whiting Mills Artist Studios building is planning to hold its holiday open house on Saturday, Dec. 5, and Sunday, Dec. 6 from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. at 100 Whiting Street.
According to event co-organizer and Whiting Mills Administrative Assistant Tara Yard, this will be the 14th annual Open Studios event and it will be held differently this year, with COVID safety precautions in place.
“We will not have food, coffee, and drinks this year,” Yard said. “It is mandatory that everyone who enters the building wears a mask. We will have one stairwell that will go up, and a second stairwell that will go down. We will also have people cleaning throughout the day. There will also be a limited number of people allowed in an artist’s studio at a time.”
Yard said that there are 48 artist studios in the building.
“We are all cautiously optimistic that we will be holding the event this year,” Yard said. “We are planning all the way to the last minute to put precautions in place. This has been a tradition for many years and it is important to us.”
