Municipal government education program
TORRINGTON — An eight week program will start in late October that will educate residents about municipality operations and the duties of elected officials.
The free program will be led by City Clerk Carol Anderson and is organized by local organization Our Culture is Beautiful.
It is scheduled to start on Thursday, Oct. 22.

The Bent of the River Audubon Center will be presenting a program featuring the myths, legends, and superstitions, about various bird species some famous, other infamous at the Torrington Library on Thursday, Sept. 10 at 6:30 p.m.

Dustin Pari has been a part of supernatural investigations in 26 countries. He will share some of his favorite stories from investigations in Irish castles, French chateaus, Australian prisons at the Torrington Library, Thursday, Oct. 15 at 7 p.m.

The Torrington Library invites you to a Zoom presentation: In Times of High Strangeness with Dustin Pari, Thursday, Oct. 29 at 6:30 p.m. Pari will present his A to Z list of strange things. Cryptid creatures, phantom spirits, and elusive legends.

Norfolk Library author talk: David Chaffetz
NORFOLK — Sunday, Aug. 30 at 4 p.m. an author talk will be held featuring David Chaffetz about women, art, and culture in Shiraz, Delhi, and Yangzhou. This is the first in our series of virtual author talks this fall. Please register in advance, and we will send you a link to the Zoom room a few days before the program.

NORFOLK — During the week of August 31 through September 4, Tobey Pond will be open from 3 p.m. to 7 p.m. On Labor Day weekend, Tobey Pond will be open from 11:00 to 7:00.

Norfolk Land Trust Hosts Virtual Race this Year
NORFOLK Out of growing concerns over the COVID virus, the Norfolk Land Trust has decided to hold a virtual race rather than the in-person trail race this year. The Haystack Challenge is a virtual 5K and 10K race. Participants can register for the race and then run or walk a 5K or 10K route of their choosing. The virtual race will take place during a one-week period from sunrise on Sept. 12 to Sunset on Sept. 20. Click here to register and to see information about the route.

Drakeville Volunteer Fire Department pasta dinner

TORRINGTON —  The Drakeville Volunteer Fire Department will hold their annual pasta dinner from 4 to 7 p.m. on Saturday, Sept.  19th to raise funds for the department. The event, which will take place at their Firehouse, 1349 Marshall Lake Road, will feature a hot pasta and meatball dinner along with rolls, salad, beverage and ice cream dessert and they’ll be following all CDC Guidelines. Drive up ordering the day of the event will  also be available. Tickets are available on the department’s Facebook page at https://www.facebook.com/drakevillevfd and will be available at the door as well.  All proceeds will go to help with the department’s current budget deficit and will ensure their continued operation  serving the residents of the Drakeville District and City of Torrington.
