Torrington Farmers Market to open
TORRINGTON — Torrington Farmers Market will open on Tuesdays from 3:00 to 6:00 p.m. and Saturdays from 10:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. starting on Saturday, July 11. This open air, pop up market is located at Saint Paul’s Lutheran Church parking lot, at 837 Charles St, under the trees. Because fresh produce is seasonal, the items for sale will change weekly depending on what’s ripe. The look of the market will be a bit different this year to enhance safety. Booths will be spaced at least six feet apart, in a single line, with one way foot traffic moving through. Farmers will be wearing face masks, plastic gloves and hand sanitizer will be available along with a hand washing station. Shoppers are asked to wear a face mask, maintain social distancing, and take turns at each booth. The farmers ask that folks refrain from touching the produce prior to sale and fill their own reusable shopping bags. A variety of payment options besides cash can be used for food purchases. SNAP EBT debit cards will have their value doubled with help from a Thomaston Savings Bank Foundation grant. Checks provided through the Women, Infants and Children’s Program (WIC) and the Senior Program will also be accepted for purchase of fruit, vegetables and fresh cut herbs..
Farms this year will include: Stillwater Farm from Torrington, Maple View and Deeply Rooted Farm from Harwinton, Twin Pines Farm from Thomaston, Tonn’s Orchard from Bristol, March Farms from Bethlehem, Autumn Harvest Orchard from Norfolk and Kathleen’s Garden from Riverton. They will be joined by Better Baking by Beth of Torrington and Ridge Runner Soaps of Harwinton.
