NEW HARTFORD — While the quarantine has silenced the music at many local venues, one local band created music on the water on Sunday, May 24.
Brett Connors, a West Hill resident and the bandleader of the Brett Connors Band (BCB), collaborated with a local dock owner to create the first BCB Social Distance Boat Bash 2020. BCB is a newly formed local band, Brett Connors is the lead guitarist, vocalist, and manager, Mike Sherman, from Sherman Custom Guitars, is on bass and vocals, and Steve Peterson is the band’s drummer. BCB was slated to play several local shows and bars this spring and early summer, all were canceled due to social distancing requirements across the region.
The band set up on a local dock and played for socially distancing boaters, floaters, sunbathers, and lake residents throughout the afternoon on Sunday. A special performance by Brett’s young daughter, Savannah (Savy) garnered applause, hoots, and hollers from across the entire lake. At one point in the afternoon, local pontoon boat owners (along with a few others), proceeded around the lake in a parade-style formation, donned with flags and parade bunting, it was a real treat to see. The event allowed ample opportunity for social distancing, and most residents did.
Many who attended are requesting Brett to make this an annual event. Brett says he plans to do this a couple more times this summer, and that it will be an annual event.
