Wolcott resident seriously hurt in Norfolk accident

NORFOLK —   A Wolcott resident is in serious condition after an accident on Route 44 on Saturday, April 25.
According to a report filed by State Police Troop B Sgt. Thomas Burke, the accident took place on Greenwoods Road East around 3 p.m. on April 25. 
Cody Ranolde, 27, of Great Barrington, Ma., was traveling eastbound on Route 44 past Laurel Way Extension in his 2017 Ford Explorer.
Meanwhile, Joseph Leonard, 51, of Wolcott, was riding his 2018 Harley-Davidson and traveling westbound past Loon Meadow Road. 
According to the police report, Leonard attempted to negotiate a gradual turn in the roadway to the right but crossed over the center line and continued across the opposite lane. 
Ranolde attempted to avoid Leonard and pulled to the right shoulder, eventually crashing into the rope guidewire at the same time as Leonard collided into the front end of the Ford Explorer.
Ranolde and his passenger, 23-year-old Hayley Labshere of Sheffield, Ma., were not injured in the accident.
Leonard was thrown from the motorcycle and sustained life-threatening injuries.
He was flown via Lifestar to Hartford Hospital.
The case remains under investigation.
