WINCHESTER CENTER — Local organization The Auxiliary For Community Health has donated a Hurst Rescue Tool to the Winchester Center Fire Department.
The Auxiliary, which was founded in 1901, operates a thrift store on 120 Willow Street.
The nonprofit organization is made up of volunteers and it uses all of the funds earned at the store for donations to area groups and health-related charities.
According to Department Chief Peter Marchand, the item was purchased by the organization in late August for $12,600.
“This rescue tool will help our firefighters removed trapped accident victims from vehicles and also has many other uses in the fire service,” Marchand wrote in an email. “The fire department would like to thank the organization for their generous support of our fire department by purchasing many items of equipment for us that will allow us to help the residents of our area. The tool may be used for auto extrication, lifting vehicles or other heavy objects off of victims, forcing open doors on buildings and many other items too numerous to mention. This is the first hydraulic rescue tool the department has owned.”
