Cub Scouts get a special visitor

WINSTED —  Children could not hold back their excitement as Cub Scouts Pack #1027 met for the first time for the school year at Batcheller Early Education Center on Friday, Sept. 20.
According to Cubmaster Kate Ricci, this year there are 41 members in the pack.
“We have had a lot of new kids that have signed up for Cub Scouts, both boys and girls,” Ricci said. “At tonight’s meeting, we are getting families amped up for our popcorn fundraiser. It’s one of our biggest fundraisers and all of the packs do it.”
To excite the children at their first meeting, the pack brought in The Hartford Wolfpack’s mascot Sonar.
The mascot posed for pictures with the children and played games, including a “popcorn hoop shoot” game outside the school.
“Why should children join the Cub Scouts? Because we do a lot of awesome things,” Pack Leader Koren Garfield said. “We go fishing, create crafts and everyone here makes friends for life.”For more information on the Cub Scouts call 860-307-6617 or go to
