COLEBROOK —  More than 170 residents had an afternoon of food and fun at Maasser Park for Winsted’s Elks Lodge #844 annual clambake on Saturday, Sept. 7.
Members of the lodge all volunteered to help cook and serve up clams, including hearty clam chowder, to attendees.
According to Lodge member and house committee co-chairman Heather Murray, more than 130 residents attended the event.
“This is a fundraiser for the Lodge so we can get things that what we need,” Murray said. “Some of what we raise goes to the scholarships we give out.”
Murray said that she has been a member of the Lodge for 15 years.
“I’m excited about what we do for our community,” she said. “We give out scholarships and we do a lot for the children and veterans for the area, including our various programs and events. To me, Winsted is a great community. I’ve been here all my life and it never ceases to amaze me when the whole town comes together to support organizations like this. We are lucky to live in a small town like this.”
